Firefox now mis-displays gallery images.... but had been working great!

I have just started (today) having problems with the gallery display using smugmug. I use the thumbnails to the left and selected image on the right format.

Now if I use the full (wide) screen or merely make the viewing portion of the screen wider the selected image appears BELOW the thumbnails rather than to the right. This is not good. :dunno

I have tested with Internet Explorer, and that seems to work OK.

Has something been changed in Smugmug so that Firefox no longer works properly?

    Hi Richard,

Sorry you are having problems! Your gallery appears fine for me in Firefox.

Can you clear your cache and cookies and see if that fixes the problem?

    http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/3232615

To clear your cache in Firefox on Windows, click on "Tools". Then select "Clear Private Data..." There will be a new window pop up. Make sure that the Cache check box is checked and click on the "Clear Private Data Now" button.

    http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/3232610

To clear your SmugMug cookies in Firefox on Windows, click on Tools. Then select Options... There will be a new window pop up. Select the Privacy tab at the top and then click on Show Cookies... button. If you use the internet a lot, you'll see a lot of cookies. Scrolling through them may be inconvenient. Type smugmug (all in small letters) in the search field at the top. This will show you all the cookies from SmugMug. Then just select the cookies and click on the Remove Cookies button at the bottom.

That does not seem to change anything. Note that I am using a wide screen laptop. I like to close the 'favorites/bookmarks' area on the left to display the pictures, that causes the selected image to move to below the thumbnails. This also happens when I merely minimize the bookmarks area too.

Added comment: I note that there are a large number of 'errors' in the error console on firefox when I open my smugmug pages. (I can't seem to copy more than one of those).

Can you check your javascript in Firefox?

Javascript needs to be enabled. You can test your browser javascript here:

    http://weblogin.bu.edu/troubleshooting?cmd=ssl -

Here are instructions on how to enable Javascript in most browsers:

I am using Firefox Richard so I went to your site and everything looks good on this end. I then went and looked at it with IE and it looked the same.

Interesting... so maybe this is something exclusively on my computer? ne_nau.gif

For those who are kind enough to take a look at the problem galleries: Are you using a wide screen computer? Are you trying to increase the viewing window size to full screen?

I checked all those items and everything "passed" without a problem. Otherwise the browser seems to work fine.

A thought: I did recently download some windows updates... not sure what they were, but sometimes microsoft likes to "suggest" that we use IE.

When this happens, try resizing your browser window a bit - does that change anything?
How about re-opening the bookmark sidebar? Does that result in the image to jump back?

I just tried it in my Firefox3 on Windows XP with the bookmark bar. Turning it off and on didn't cause any trouble with the gallery you linked to.

Do you have any add-ons in your Firefox? Let us know what 'extensions' you have installed.

I am having the same issue. I have Foxfire 3.0.3, WinXP. I had previously been able to view http://cmac.smugmug.com/photos/swfpopup.mg?AlbumID=2504559&AlbumKey=f3ta9 with no problems, now I cannot.

I did not view cmac website yesterday before doing these items but it was looking good Monday evening. The first thing I did was change the resolution of my display so that I could view another website then I went to Adobe to find out about security in flash. There were some security boxes that you could click to make Adobe more secure. After that I went back to view cmac slide show and get the bsd. I have since uninstalled Adobe and reinstalled and changed the display resolution back to what I thought it was previously before the change. Still not able to view cmac, however, the full screen slide on
    http://www.photosbyat.com/popular/4/95563677_gnzHL#95563677_gnzHL looks fabulous.

Yesterday I was also busy trying to resetup the slideshow for all the galleries on http://ashleighdgrantham.smugmug.com/ . My slideshow works nicely in the one gallery but when I go to galleries and click the slideshow button I get no slideshow. I feel that I need to change something with my code but havn't found what yet. When I click the slide show in the original posters galleries his slideshow doesn't work for me either.

BTW the slideshow on SebastianHosche.com works great the slideshow button on rainforest1155 does not.

That's really interesting. So basically you have problems with the fullscreen slideshow on nickname.smugmug.com addresses, but it works fine on domains, right?
Lets focus on one gallery for now. Try the slideshow button in the following links:
    1. http://www.sebastianhosche.com/gallery/2136851_rpYt2#110682197_n3RTD
    2. http://rainforest1155.smugmug.com/gallery/2136851_rpYt2#110682197_n3RTD

    4. http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/2136851_rpYt2#110682197_n3RTD

In which links does the slideshow button show the slideshow in Firefox?
What happens if no photos show - do you just get a black screen?

Try the links in Internet Explorer as well - what happens there?

In Firefox, let me know which version of Flash you currently have installed:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/
(hold your mouse cursor over 'about' from the flash logo in the center of the screen to see your version)

What add-ons and toolbars do you have in Firefox? Go to Tools menu > add-ons and give me the list of 'extensions'.

It makes no sense to me that it works for you using this link, but doesn't work with the other link that brings up the exact same gallery using a slightly different address scheme.
It all sounds kind of random, especially since you earlier mentioned that the rainforest1155.smugmug.com link wasn't working.

Windows XP is based on Internet Explorer and can't run properly without it. I'm almost 100% sure that you have it on your Windows. Click on the start button and select 'Run' from it - in the window that comes up, enter:
    iexplore
Click on OK and Internet Explorer will start up. Try the links from my last post again.

Could you also check again the Flash version link? I'm not looking for the 'shockwave player' version, but the 'adobe flash player' below it.

In your Firefox, could you temporarily disable the two add-ons that you have installed and see if anything changes?

The only thing I did recently was run some windows updates (and I have no idea what they are).

Firefox extensions: bandwidth meter, broadband speed test, electoral college monitor, Linkedin companion for firefox, skype extension for firefox 2.2.0.87 (hmmm this may be recent), web developer 1.1.6.

    Version of firefox is: 3.0.3

As I said before, everything seems to work fine except that when I widen the screen, or use full screen width, the selected image moves to below the thumbnails. It was working fine until a few days ago.ne_nau.gif

By the way my monitor is 1680 x 1050 in case that makes any difference. It seems to bump the image to the lower position after I reach a certain screen width fo that window. I CAN get it to stay in the right position if I play with the width a little bit or hold on the cursor a bit after I move the screen edge.

That makes sense to me, I will try this. The slideshow buttons work fine on my husbands computer with IE 7.0, works fine on my granddaughters laptop with Foxfire. The only thing left is my computer. Foxfire updates the browser whether I ask for them or not and 3.03 was installed over last weekend as I recall. I have webdeveloper and dictionary installed as an extension to Foxfire.

The only other thing that it could possibly be is Adobe on my machine which I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 or 4 times Tues and Wed.
