Hi you'll,

There my wife and I were driving along US 95 headed up to Ft. Stewart to pick up my son. It was getting near lunchtime. The closest city to us was St. Augustine and there just happens to be this rookery in St. Augustine. So.....

a snowy egret

a tri-colored heron tends to its eggs
21416101-L.jpg

a great egret takes care of some grooming during a rare quiet moment
21416102-L.jpg

a little blue heron

a cattle egret

    Hi Harry,

"Just happens to be a rookery"...:lol

Great seriesthumb.gif Did not realize that the cattle egret was such a colorful bird. I always see them out in the pastures with cattle, but never ventured close. (No desire to be gored by a bull.)eek7.gif

    Harry,

Delightful and educational seriesclap.gifclap.gif They are all wonderful, showing so much of the "mood" for lack of a better term, of the birds at the time. The baby heron, the pristeen white egret and the cattle bird are quite remarkable.thumb.gif I'm learning about these birds, thanks to the posts by the dgrinners:D

Gosh, Harry, and all I got today were ospreys.

I have been following them, so I will keep it up, but they are not that dramatic.

I mean once you have seen one fish dinner, well, how many bloody fish dinners do we need.

Their babies are either brand new, or very old. They looked like adults with babies. Perhaps they still have eggs. They are up taller than a telephone pole.
I won't know until a baby looks over.

Here is a teaser, out of 400 photos, many good ones, I used the monopod.

    21440356-M.jpg

I know you have posted just about the same photograph, but I was very excited to get a fish, and in focus, too. I have sooo many more, mostly as a sequence. Kind of like shooting Andy eating dinner.

The difference with me was the "hurry up and wait" factor. I was there a long time, but the male egret was nicer to me this time. And, as you can see, the female just wanted food.

I love your shots, Harry as usual. I hope you and your son are having a good time, or had, whichever. Uh, when are you coming home.

ginger (I finally posted some of my egrets, I just wanted to post........)
And with most people gone, the few of us seem to be giving each other lots of attention.

We have a faux Andy, or that is the way I see it. His response to the post re "them", Yosemite, or where ever, it is in that thread in wide angle.

He just might respond to you, though they are probably busy having a good time.

Thanks. The cattle egrets don't get much play because they are usually hanging out with cattle (hence their name).

Harry, this is ginger. I love the first shot, the white bird. I don't know why, the colors, and everything are right on for me.

The rest are great shots, as usual. I love them. The Cattle bird........how could they be with cattle when they need water........or want water, or that seems to be where egrets are anyway?

Hi Harry...glad you are there and back...hope all went well....how could it not with the first stop being the rookery??? Did Linda enjoy it? Hope so. And tell me...was it as magical as the first time??

The trip went well. Linda enjoyed the rookery. Of course, not being into photography she was ready to leave after only an hour. :cry But we had a good time. The place is still amazing. No new chicks have hatched yet but the great egret chicks are beginning to spread their wings and should be trying to fly soon. Little Blue Herons have started to move in and to build nests and the cattle egrets are mating and building nests now too. The tricolor heron and snowy egret eggs sgould be hatching very soon. I was told that there are some wood stork chicks but their nests are in the top of the trees so i couldn't see any.

    Hey Ginger,

Thanks. The cattle egrets get their name from their hanging out with cattle. They feed off the bugs attracted by the cows daily output. :eat
