Is it possible to put a subcategory inside a Gallery?

I thought thats what the subcategories would do, but they didnt go inside the galleries.

Any help?

Or is this possible?

    Hi 48 photos wave.gif.

Categories can be a little confusing sometimes. Here's a brief overview:

    Categories>Subcategories>Galleries>Photos
    Categories>Galleries>Photos

Categories can contain Subcategories and Galleries.
    Subcategories only contain Galleries
    Galleries only contain photos

Photos can only be held inside galleries.

To create, modify, and delete categories and subcategories go to Control Panel>Customize and then click on Categories or Subcategories.
To move galleries between Categories and Subcategories go to your gallery>Gallery Tools>Customize Gallery. There you can change the Categories under the green heading Essentials. You can change Subcategories under the green heading Extras.

Here's some more info on Categories and Subcategories: http://www.smugmug.com/help/upload-photo

You have 3 levels to play with - categories, subcategories, and galleries. A gallery always lives inside a category, and sometimes a gallery also lives inside a subcategory. A gallery is at the bottom level of the hierarchy.

See this help page - http://www.smugmug.com/help/upload-photo.

Here's an example from my site. I use the Travel category. I recently took a trip to the Lake District in England. I created a subcategory within travel called Fells, lakes, wonder - September 2008. I have 4 galleries in the travel category assigned to the Fells, lakes, wonder subcategory.

If you want classifications within a gallery, have you considered using keywords? http://www.smugmug.com/help/keywords-tags

I shoot motocross races. So when we have 30 races a day, i take about 1500 photos. I would like to organize them into each race so people wont have to search through 1500 photos to find themselves.

You could use a structure like:

    Motocross (category)
.....Date or Name of Event (sub-category)
    .............Gallery for Race #1
    .............Gallery for Race #2
    .............etc...

I do something like this for each soccer season

    Soccer
    .... Team Name
    ........ Game #1
    ........ Game #2

One more thing to add. You can then send out the link to the sub-category for the event and the participants can just click on their particular race on that screen.

My problem is that i want to be able to lock down a category without having to lock down the galleries within it (or something to that effect). for intense, i want to put the photos for a couples wedding into one category or sub-category and then have galleries inside consisting of different galleries i.e wedding day pics, bridal shots, engagement shots, ring shots, church shots, rehearsal shots, day-after shots. I hate that people have to type in a password every time when switching from gallery to gallery within their own category. I want them to be able to log in once and see all of their shots organized into different galleries without logging in again and again.

I also don't want to use a share group, as i want people to see other projects I am doing when they visit via my homepage.

    Hi modernmethod,

Did you know that if you set all the passwords in a Category or Subcategotry to the same thing your viewers will only have to enter the password once? It's not exactly the same as a Category or Subcategory password but it basically works the same way.
