I took these a few weeks back, just got around reviewing & processing them. These are basically the first shots of my recent acquisitions, the Canon 100mm Macro and MT-24EX flash. All are handheld shots. Location was my Mom's backyard. I had to fight with mosquitoes and leeches throughout.

Wonderful shots for your first outing.
One thing to watch is composition- try to take bugs off center by giving them more room in the direction they are looking

Hi Nik, wow you had a very successful day out shooting clap.gif
You have your focus in hand, that is one thing people often struggle with when shooting MACRO.

The other is learning not to CENTRE everything,
this habit is I think one of the hardest ones to stop doing,
I did it myself for many years.

I'm laughing to myself at the look on the Wasps face,
he does look mean doesn't he... you should be very pleased with these shots Nik nod.gif ..... Well Done clap.gif

    Thanks guys!
Good point about the composition. That day I was too busy making sure the focus is right (easiest way of course is when the target is at the center). Plus the damn mosquitoes....

Thanks phil, it was a mix of auto and manual. For jittery bugs, I kept it on auto. For the docile ones, I used manual focus. I would've gone to your flickr site and have a look, but access to it is blocked in these parts of the world (luckily smugmug is not!)
