This afternoon I took a few shots of some Goldfinches which arrived in our garden. I welcome any C & C for the next time I shoot these wee fellas.
Regards
Bob

Beautiful small birds Bob, which can be very difficult to capture. I notice each of them are a little off on the focus. Not sure why, but:

    1. focus on the eyes,
    2. raise the f stop to increase the dof, and
    3. shoot at a fast enough shutter speed to eliminate movement.

    Best,

    Dan :D

Thanks Dan, I was aware of the eye focus and I used the central point on the AF but they are on the go all the time. Am I right in using the central point as I am shooting well withing 20'
I will definately raise the F stop from F8 and try F11. I shoot Manual and I will certainly raise the shutter speed.
    I really appreciate your help.
    Regards
    Bob

I struggle also with these fellas Bob. They do move quickly and it can be difficult to focus on the eyes. That's why I raise the f/stop if I can. You can always turn up your iso if it helps raise shutter speed and f/stop.

Yes Dan, as I say I shoot manual. If I raise my shutter speed I find my image is dark and absolutely no good. As I say I shoot manual - raw and I use the metering system to take the shot. Am I doing right?
    Thanks for the advice

Try Aperture priority Bob. Set it at 8 or higher to get a good dof. The shutter speed will adjust itself, but if it is not at least 1/400, increase your iso so that it will be.

Thanks Dan I will certainly do that. I always shot AV prior to getting into the ways and means of shooting manual.
