It's that time of year when drone and queen wasps start appearing. First 3 shots ID'd as a queen Median wasp (Dolichovespula media) and last 2 shots what I hope is a drone common wasp Vespa vulgaris (they don't have a sting).

Hi Brian, even though the Drone doesn't have a sting they'd still scare me,
can you easily identify the stingless ones before they land on ya?
They all look the same to me I'd like to know before it got near me that it didn't have a sting on it
Love the head shot #3 Brian, can just about lift your finger print off that last shot .... Skippy

:skippy Everyone has the right to be stupid, but some people just abuse the privilege :dgrin
Think I was pretty safe whether the wasp in the last shot was stingless or not- they only sting if you annoy them and I certainly made sure I was not annoying it

Great shots Brian once again. I haven't seen a wasp for some time.

Great shots.
I love bug macro shots. I tie flies for fly fishing some times and it's amazing how much detail is ignored by most patterns. Hopefully, fish can't see the tiny details that a good macro photographer can bring out!
the big close up (BCU) is awesome..
but he/she needs a bath!
cheers,

Liewwk - re #3 At 3:1 magnification it can't have that much DOF at F7.1- it was focus stacked from 3 shots.
