About Joining Communities

Kind of a question about the theory behind communities: I've joined the communities appropriate to my site (http://www.earthphotos.com), but I don't get why, in "Customize Gallery," in order to participate in the community, you must alter the appearance of your gallery on your site. Unless I'm missing something, you're faced with a choice between SmugMug and whatever the community looks like.
I'd like to participate in the communities, and I'd be happy for my, say, landscapes gallery to show up looking like others in the community to people who click on the "Communities" link on SmugMug's front page, but I don't want it to change on my own site. After you get your site looking just like you want it, why would you allow it to be changed in order to join a community?
It sort of doesn't make sense to me. Say you have ten galleries on your site, all with a custom look, and you want two of them to be part of different communities. Must those two look different from your other eight? Or am I getting this wrong?
Thanks,
Neo

This is a late post to the original, but I agree. I don't understand the reasoning for taking on the appearance of the community you join. Seems like this should be an option for us to select. I would think most would want to keep their same look and feel while still being part of a community.
Most communities don't have a custom look and for those, your own customizing will still show.
The community owner is given the option to force his customizations on the participating galleries and some communities do that.

Is there a way to fix this? Or do we just need to beg the community owner to change his settings?
Or do we just need to make a new community?
Thanks
Mike
I'm afraid, the setting is up to the community owner. Only he can change it. So, you would have to contact him.
