Well, the one advantage to living in the "we can't make our minds up" State of Ohio, is we have had the politicians here almost every other day. So my wife and I decided to go down with my 8 year son (GameBoy in hand) to the Barack Obama Rally in Columbus on Sunday. Full Gallery here.

Standing in line - 6 city blocks away. One of at least 3 similar lines.

So they tell us no one else is going to get in the secure area. So quickly get to the outer perimeter.

Ground Zero. Well, actually this mass of people is standing on the outside of the perimeter fence.

Here we are 10 people back from the outer fence. If you look next to the right side large monument (near the statues feet) you can see 2 little white dots in a green tree. Those are the lights in front of the podium for the video/photo masses.

I bet these guys want Wed Nov 5th to get here sooner than most of us.

Everywhere you looked there were kids on people's shoulders

Obama #3 and the press (note the size of the lights I mentioned earlier)

The Generals overlooking the crowd. Also gives you an idea how far back we really were from the stage.

I wonder Sherman would think about all this.

Right out of a movie. I wonder if he's ordering pizza.

This one is actually from about 3 blocks away, at the Early Voting location. The wait was about 4 hours, if not more. This is only the outside. Inside it snakes thru a giant convention hall.

So get out and vote. I really don't care who for. Just excercise your right to do so. :nod :nod

Thanks Aperature. I guess the web gallery link is being passed around the country. The gallery has about 60 shots of the hundreds I took.

Thanks F-Stop. More secret agents and rooftop guys in the gallery.
The wider shots are my 5D w / 24-70. All the telephotos are the 50D and the 300 f/4. A lot of these are shot holding the camera overhead. I was just about to try and figure out Liveview (read the manual BEFORE hand woudl have been smart) when he walked in front of us.

Nope. 60,000+ people, which is one reason they cut off the # inside the fence. Plus the Secret Service always likes a lot of extra room. They wouldn't permit that level of density up close.

I mention this in the gallery journal, but people really went out of their to help others. And at the early voting site it was almost like a festival.

It shows how much this election means to us when we are willing to stand in line for hours to post our vote and be heard.
