soccer photo contest - please vote
**last two days - would love to have your support. Contest ends after voting on Friday 11/21 and they're supposed to announce the winner by Monday 11/24. Please vote and keep your fingers crossed for the boys**
hi everyone,
a local LA radio station is sponsoring a "photo" (read popularity) contest in which the player in the winning photo and his whole team gets to attend a David Beckham soccer academy. You were supposed to have a single player w/ a soccer ball in the picture. I wanted a somewhat unique shot and my son's team mates chose this picture of Nathan (even though it breaks the "faces" rule, they all liked the swinging hair):
I have seen how this wonderful community has stepped up to help others in this type of situation and would love it if some of you could help send the Los Gauchos team to the academy. Here is the link to vote. Nathan's picture is in the 3rd boys gallery.
You may vote once per day (the page is reset each day after 11 AM California time). You must enter your email address and then they immediately send you an email to validate your vote.
Thank you for any and all votes. The Dgrin community rocks :clap

Good Luck
Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular.
Why do people post their equipment in their sig. Isn't it kind of like bragging? That having been said...
Canon 40d Gripped (x2), Rebel (Original), Canon 70-200 f/2.8 USM L, Canon 300 f/4, Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, Canon 50mm f/1.8, Canon 17-55 f/3.5-5.6, ThinkTank Airport TakeOff
It is never to late to become what you might have been.

This is a weird contest. They've apparently allowed photos that do not meet their qualifications. And they will supposedly have a single winner, but currently have 8 distinct galleries and people can vote in each gallery. I have no idea how they will ultimately determine the winner. Maybe it will be the highest total vote getter; maybe they'll do a run off between the winners of the different galleries. But the more votes we get now, the greater the chance. So please support the boys.

C.

So let me understand this. You are using the graciousness of the DGrin community to make their votes on your picture over everyone else just because you requested it.
Sounds good to me
BTW, your picture was the best out of the ten. Nice capture and good luck to you and your boy's team.
good luck, vote is in.

thanks for your support dadwtwins (are your twins old enough to play yet?)
While I tried to pick a picture that was worthy of a true photo contest, it is pretty obvious that the majority of the entrants don't have a clue about photography. That, and the fact that the sponsoring web site actually says this is about getting the votes and not necessarily voting on the best picture ("in order to win, participants should get as many voters as they can to come and vote repeatedly") So, yeah, I guess I am using dgrin to my son's teams full advantage
Cheers!

Your only real competition (on the merits) in your gallery are the goalie pix.
But goalie pix are a dime a dozen.
Good luck!

Gosh, those pictures are AWFUL... there is even a Studio shot of a little girl holding a soccer ball jumping in the air with a santa hat...
Glass: Sigma 70-200 f2.8 | Sigma 20 f1.8 | Canon 28-135 f3.5-5.6 IS USM
I know - I was shocked when I saw the quality of most of the pictures submitted (you couldn't see them until the day the voting started). Not only are the sponsors ignoring their own rules (I find it hard to believe, for example, that there were releases submitted for players that are obviously on the opponents team), the types of pictures submitted (with some exceptions) are incredibly amaturish. And the one picture where the submitter blotted out the faces of other players But in defense of the santa hat shot, the rules did state that the picture didn't have to be an action shot; just have one kid and a soccer ball...
btw - thanks for your vote

last week of the contest. It is apparently a close race between several images/players. I'm sure we're right up there in part thanks to the wonderful dgrin community
The boys on the team would greatly appreciate your continued support. Please place your vote here - ideally every day until 11/21
Thanks again and Go Gauchos!

Thanks for your vote Caroline.
Maybe your girls will see the light when they get a bit older and their friends are all doing it.
