Gallery and Category Layout

Hi,

I have got myself all confused tonight and was wondering if I could get some advice? My website is http://www.filedimage.com and I normally upload photos straight from Lightroom with the awesome SmugMug plugin. This creates galleries under categories which has seemed fine, until now. It was suggested to me that under my Landscape category I dont need to seperate these into further categories. So the user can just click Portfolio, Landscape Photography and all the shots are in there. Problem is I cant do this as the setup is wrong. I have to setup galleries under the category of Landscape Photography. I dont want the user to have to go further. The setup works great for the Concert Photography category though as I have galleries for each concert. I am guessing this gives me better flexibility with setting stuff up such as prices per gallery.

Ultimately I think I have it setup right but just want to display the galelries differently under certain categopries. I just dont need the extra step. Any ideas?

Please save me from confusion and frustration! haha

Thanks

Chris

Don't specify a subcategory for your single landscape gallery. You can add it back later if you add more landscape galleries.

Go to the customization screen for that gallery and set the subcategory to none. Then clicking on Landscape Photography will take the viewer directly into the gallery.

I'd recommend using subcategories only when you have more than one gallery that "fit" in that subcat.

Thats the confusing thing is I have no sub categories setup. The Landscape Photography is a gallery inside of a category called Landscape Photography. I want photos to just sit inside the category.

    Oops, sorry! I misunderstood.

There isn't any way around going through the category page from a standard categories view. If you link directly from the navbar, you could link to the gallery instead of the category.

Or you could add another gallery to that category. Are you planning to do that? Until you have more galleries in the landscape and nature photography categories, you might consider using a single category for both of them. You can split them later as you add more galleries.

Yeah this is where my confusion came in. I actually changed the Portfolio link straight to a gallery which then had categories underneath and solved the issue. However I found moving existing galleries around into categories quite troublesome and confusing. I also thought that if all my photos were under one gallery then I couldnt apply different prices to some galleries etc. I still need a bit of flexibility.

Actually this also begs the question about the directory tree title. It doesnt have my portflio link . You have to either click on Filed Image and go back to the slideshow or use the Portfolio link in navbar. Surely the directory tree should be:

    filedimage>portfolio>concert photography>you am I @ prince bandroom

    and not

    filedimage>concert photography>you am I @ prince bandroom

This tells me I have my setup quite wrong dammit

    Thanks
