Now I messed it up...

I did some Senior photos for a client and they turned out great. BUT when I put the gallery together somehow my regular pricing didn't stick and they got EVERYTHING at default! :huh :huh Aaaugh! The only way I even found out that they ordered or that my pricing was messed up was when they asked questions about ordering more and I couldn't find their order.

Anyway, my dilemma is this: They want me to order a bunch of wallets from WHCC (because they are die cut and not in a sheet) and I have to decide what to charge for them. I bet those default priced prints they got last week were pretty handy! But generally I charge around $7.00 for a 4 x 6. Do I just explain my fubar and price them what I usually do, and tell them they really lucked for their first order? I really screwed this up, but wonder if they will just say "forget it" when they see my regular prices after they have seen and experienced the joy of wholesale prices. So what is the professional thing to do, guys? Eat it, or explain it?

I just experienced the same problem. One of my galleries for school photos somehow showed default pricing. I swear I checked each gallery three times! All the other galleries are fine. Thankfully, it was just one class. I sent a note home explaining that the prices were previously set incorrectly, and now the problem has been fixed. I apologized for any confusion it may have caused.

I honestly don't know if I did something wrong or if there's something wrong with the site. But I had gone through gallery by gallery to set pricing, and then went through several times to check pricing. I have no way of knowing how much money I lost.

You do need to let them know your regular prices, and if they want to order more prints they should pay your regular prices.

    Proofing days
I have my galleries set for proofing time - even for those that are wholesale pricing. And my default portfolio price is 10% over minimum regardless.

You can say there was a software error and actually tell them that you decided to honor your mistake out of your integrity but that any future orders will be at the correct pricing.

Yeah, I believe a called it a "technical glitch" and explained that previous orders would not be effected.

It's scenarios like this that I like charging one upfront fee and set the prices to default.

I had it happen with downloads one time. I was selling full size originals for 3 bucks. Ouch that hurt. I ended up simply filling the clients order (they wanted more after I fixed the issue) at the previous price and chalked it up to a learning experience. If I were you I would explain what happened, if they are not pleased that the got round one almost for free and are not willing to spend for the real prices, then you must consider if this is the type of client you would like to have.
    Thanks, Matt

Thanks you all! I have been sitting here for the past two days going back and forth about this and I am glad to say that now I have a direction! And I will make sure to triple check the pricing from now on! mwink.gif
