What lens did you use to get that level of detail?
Jeff,
same old 100-400 + TCx1.4 combo.
The visual increase in details compared to my previous years shots is due to 15mp frame of Canon 50D.
Plus 50D's new LiveView autofocus paired with exposure simulation and live histogram works wonders.
You have me wanting to get out my fathers' home made telescopes and take some shots through them. He used to, so it shouldn't take me long to figure out how.

Sharp, beautiful work.
Thanks!
And you know what - I had no intention to shoot it last night. But when I was, mhh, let's skip the details and simply say that I was minding my own business at midnight on my back yard , I saw the perfectly round moon in zenith, flaying gracefully through the crystal clear sky, I said to myself "if not now, when?", finished what I was doing, assembled the setup - et voila! :ivar
So, take that telescope out and put this image of mine to shame!
How do you get it without the red tint on the outside. Every time I try, I get blue and red colors on the outside
Welcome to Dgrin!
Dunno. I got a bit of teal on the S-E arc, but not much. Maybe minor ACR adjustments helped, but I must say red simply wasn't there to begin with.. Different lens?

I have a 70-300 mm lens on my 20D but it never seems to get that kind of clarity on the outside of that kind of image. Is it a lens flaw? Thanks for the welcome.

I think it might be the lens, yes. Mine's taken with 100-400 + TCx1.4.
