Getting my watermark started

Help,
Just opened an account with SmugMug and I am following the tutorial on how to place watermarks on my photos. I'm using Photoshop CS3. After I choose the "text tool" and click on the screen, I get a little black box, not a flashing cusor. Nothing I type appears. Can you help.

Check your text vs background colors. You may have white text on white background.
