Not a clever thing to do at all, and I would not encourage anyone to try it.
You cannot concentrate on driving while taking photos.

One of my work colleagues brother was killed by someone doing something stupid similar to this by a 21 year old girl.

Be the passenger, shoot till your hearts content, play it safe! :D

I gotta agree with this. Don't photograph and drive at the same time. This was done with me in the passenger seat and my wife driving. Really needed a wider focal length lens though. :(

Lens focal length was good for this one though:

Well, it's one thing to do it in the city or suburbs, but quite another thing entirely to do it in the middle of Iowa with no one around for miles.

Appreciate the concern Skippy but I was driving about 25 mph, grabbed my camera and fired without even looking into the viewfinder of my d300. I am not advocating that people take up driving photography....lol.

I would tend to agree - shooting while cruising down a lonely highway is probably a pretty small risk.

Here are a couple from a trip last month. Heading east at dusk.
