Canadian Badminton Nationals
A soccer contact is head of the organizing committee, and she loves my work. She wants me to be the event photographer. 5 days, 4 age groups, 350 athletes. One venue(that I know has decent light). Requires on site printing, and since there will likely be 6 games/time for 8 hrs a day, requires more than one shooter.

I intend to bid on this, for sure. Its about time.

Thanks everyone. This sounds like the right sized event to cut my teeth on. Certainly much more reasonable than the Alberta Winter Games that approached me last year.
I am also pretty much decided that I want to make the move to (full time or at least significant income from)photography by next summer. (all things aligning properly that is!!) This should fit right in!

Just give the dancers enough whiskey and they won't care what your photos look like!

Just kidding! I wish you all the best with your work. Keep us posted on how it goes. I'm sure you will do great!

The soccer club is having a big celebration for the U18 boys team that won Nationals (my older sons team) and they have asked me to take photos during this event. I am thinking that it will be a great way to test out the logistics for setting up the table for the other two events. I am also thinking that I may do a spec 'photo booth', and will definitely have all kinds of advertising set up including considering purchasing a large digital frame to showcase past work and hopefully generate new bookings.

Not a bad idea. I have to do something similar but the location has limited access to power for a digital frame / laptop display. So... I bought a 3-panel folding photo display screen (black wood) from Sears and am matting 15 5 x 7 prints to fit in it as a backdrop for my booth. Then, i can have my (small screen) laptop running on a looped slide show - and a gzillion business cards to give out :)

One thing I've learned is that business cards are very cheap and effective advertising. People do keep them indefinitely (mostly 'cause they forget to throw them away, I suspect). Many business people hoard their own cards as if they're gold - They ARE gold only if you give them away mwink.gif

Good luck with the projects and keep us updated.
