Is there any information/thread on printing with a border for double mat mounting?
Anybody can do it.

What's hapening is that with the double matting on a 5x7 is that a quarter inch on each side of the photo is being hidden behind the smaller (4.5 x 6.5) inner mat. A little bit is acceptable, but with the double it changes the look of most of my prints. I'm thinking a border, maybe 3/16 or 1/4 all the way around would keep the shot looking the same in a smaller mat opening?

You're right about the loss of 1/4" all around the image. The solution is to cut your own mats as I do or have your framer cut mats for you. When done this way, the top mat is cut to an opening of 5x7 and the inner mat is cut to the smaller size of 4.75x6.75. If you're careful cutting your own mats, you can use 1/8" reveal for the inner mat.

Thanks- I'm thinking the simplest approach for me right now may be to resize the image and add a colored border to the photo.
