Two thumbs down? and no picture?

Hi,
I don't usually even look at all the pictures in my galleries but today I was looking for one and I can't see the bigger picture in the standard smug view (thumbs on the left and one bigger picture on the right). just the red x with the file name.

then while I was staring at the page I noticed that the thumbs are both red and down (for the voting thing). On another picture, there's just two green thumbs up.
weird.
but my real question is, why isn't the bigger picture there at all? and how do I fix that? It seems to be the XL size. I can go look at other sizes.
Is there a way to check whether some sizes of pictures are missing without having to look at each one?
Some kids told me last week that some of my pages didn't work and I thought it was just because they were looking while I was uploading, but maybe there's something else going on? They said slideshow mode worked, but not the pages. But I don't have any details on what pages or anything, so really I just want to know how to get the pictures back that are missing.
