I'm purchasing a Canon 40D and have an 18-55 kit lens and a Tamron 28-300 lens. I'm interested in some opinions on what lens I should get for shooting indoor sports such as basketball and volleyball. I'd like to be able to keep the cost at $300 or less. Is that possible?

Thanks for your input.

Probably not. Consensus is (from what I can tell) is that you need at least a 2.8 lens. Sigma has a 70-200 2.8 that brand new goes for about $800. I just saw one in the trading post for $600 used. 70-200 in a gym will do quite well. It gives you a good range. There's other options, of course, 100 f/2.8, etc, but for the greatest flexibility consider something zoom.

Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular.

Why do people post their equipment in their sig. Isn't it kind of like bragging? That having been said...

    85mmf1.8

or apparently for bball, the 50mmf1.4 is long enough.

Should be just above your budget, used.

The EF 85mm, f1.8 USM is fairly popular for indoor sports, as is the EF 100mm, f2 USM.
