I've had very little time to mess with my new 50D but today I spent some time using the micro adjustment focus feature and then took a couple "real world" shots at ISO 1600 and ISO 3200. I took the shots and handled them the way I normally would just to see what I could come up with. I was pretty impressed and I know my 30D would not be capable of the results I got. I know there has been a lot of 40D to 50D noise grumbling but if anyone was interested in what the 50D looks like at 1600 and 3200, here are a couple I took today. The ISO 1600 is a bit soft, probably from camera shake (1/30 on 35mm) but I wasn't interested in sharpness but noise. I'm pretty sure from these shots I'll be able to use ISO 3200 for indoor high school sports. For family snapshots to keep memories I would definately be satisfied with keeping these images, especially the second because it is sharper.

Stats:

Image #1 ISO 1600 1/30 f1.6 RAW Cropped about 66% of original size.
Image #2 ISO 3200 1/30 f2.0 RAW Cropped about 66% of original size.

Processing:
Imported to LR 2.1 and very minor tweaks (exposure, contrast, wb)

Sharpen very lightly with Focal Blade Filter.
