Create subaccount for others to upload images

Hi, I'm in a trial version of a Power account and I'm using SmugMug to put together photos of company events on our corporate intranet.

Is there a way to create a sub login where I can authorize other people to log in and upload photos (other than sharing my login)? I'm specifically curious to know if there is a way to lock down the customization features, where there is only 1 set of Quick Settings to customize a gallery in such a sub user login.

Basically, I want to make it as easy and foolproof as possible for a couple of other employees to be able to add images. I know it doesn't seem too difficult to select an existing Quick Setting from the drop down box, but it would be great if there is a way to avoid showing all the gallery customization options.

Any help would be appreciated - Thanks!

    Hi there

AFAIK you can't do this as a Power user. Pro users can have an assistant password that lets others do what you are asking but without the ability to delete photos or mess with the control panel

    >I'm specifically curious to know if there is a way to lock down the customization features, where there is only 1 set of Quick Settings to customize a gallery in such a sub user login.

I don't think so. I am doing exactly what you are trying to do but I can't block others from changing gallery settings. Therefore what I've done is just to pick up the RSS feed for the whole site and just look at what is being created. If it's wrong then I fix it. That combined with a detailed set of instructions on how to upload seems to prevent problems.

    Good luck

The "multi-user" support of smugmug is not that advanced, meaning you don't have a high level of customization as to what other users can do. For Standard and Power accounts, you get guests, friends/family, and the owner.

Guests can comment, thumb up/down, buy.
Friends/Family can tag photos if you so allow (Friends/Family must have Smugmug accts)
    Owner can do anything

For the Pro, you gain an "assistant login": (the following is quoted from the SmugMug wiki)
Assistants can login using the account email address (or nickname) and assistant password and do everything the account owner can do, with five exceptions:
    • Assistants cannot delete photos or galleries.
    • Assistants cannot view the Settings, Pros, or Customize tabs of your Control Panel, nor can they see your referral details in the Stats tab.
    • Assistants cannot use the credit card on the account to buy prints or Give the Gift of SmugMug.
    • Assistants see your pro pricing in the shopping cart. They cannot order prints "at-cost".
    • Assistants cannot access your SmugVault, if you have one.
You can give the assistant password to as many people as you like and they can add as many photos as they like.

As for the quick settings, you can not FORCE the person using the assistant password to use those quick settings. I do not know for sure whether it can be done via a heavy dose of customization. If it comes to that, I would suggest contacting the Support Heroes of Smugmug, I don't know their email address of the top of my head.

I would see if adding photos by email would work for them!

The link name is misleading, but it talks about emailing pictures to your smugmug account.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks Richard - I appreciate the quick response. Good to know of the assistant feature in the Pro account.

Seems like monitoring and instructions are the way to go. Thanks again - I appreciate it.

Thanks Nick. The advanced feature of an assistant login on the Pro account may be a solution. I will certainly try the email feature of adding photos in order to circumvent a potential issue with the customization features. I'm open to anything to ease the use for others who are not very technically savvy but take lots of company pictures.

Another possibility is to get the other people to upload photos via email (your email password is different from your normal password).

These photos will go into a separate gallery, and you would then have to move them into the correct place.
