Birch Bark

This photo was one of the first I took when I got my XTI, and for a good six months it was my background on the computer, and I would just stare at it, the knots and bumps in the bark, the way the light hit the tree and how it contrasts with the black. Is there anything to this picture or am I destined for the loony bin

    As another newbie to Dgrin and beginner photog, take what I say with a grain of salt.

    I do like the texture in the bark. Have you done any PP on this? Would it look better with a little more contrast and sharpness to the bark and with a tighter crop on the left - that is to remove some of the black space so the black/white boundary is not in the middle of the frame?
