Help Please weird markings on image

Hi

My neighbor sent me some images taken with a Canon Powershot A300.
Both the images have these weird markings on them. I'm not too sure what caused them or if i can fix it.

Any help would be great.

    This doesn't look like typical noise, so I'm guessing that the memory card might be starting to fail. You can correct this one in Photoshop by applying the median or dust and scratches filter.

    I agree with Richard, try different memory cards. If that is not it try a different memory reader, then a different computer. This looks a lot like good-ol' file corruption, not something photography related... Unless, of course, they dropped the camera or something weird.
