category feature photo

I have a category which also has sub-categories.
In the main category, I have one gallery, where I placed one photo and marked it as a feature photo.

When my sub-categories were empty, that feature photo showed. However, when place photos into a sub-category, the feature photo for the category becomes the feature photo of that first sub-category.

Why is this? Shouldn't the feature photo of the first gallery in the primary category be the feature photo?

    The feature photo in a sub-category will show as the feature photo in a category. I'm sorry that I don't have a better answer.
