I went bush this morning to a local forest reserve.
There weren't many bugs about, even in the rainforest bits..

Maybe it was the weather?? :dunno

Here are the results:

1. fly - I like the b&w contrast in this one..
Edit: Robber Fly - ID courtesy geoff, thanks..

2. Some type of Longicorn Beetle , i think ??

3. Can't ID this hairy/spiky bug/caterpillar??

4. Termites - do they not have eyes?

Feedback and critique warmly welcomed ..

cheers,
steve

    Nice shots Steve.
    #1 a Robber Fly I think.
    Love the composition on #2.
#3 another one of your wierdos.
    Interesting seeing termites up close.

    Nice series-
Your one up on me already - never seen a robber fly although we do have them in the UK.

    Hi Steve,

Yes termites do have eyes according to what I've found on the web.
Apparently if they are Soldier or Workers they have either very tiny eyes or none at all.

    Here's a link http://www.bugwise.net.au/guide/termites

Your caterpillar is very interesting, I have no idea what it is,
heck rarely do I ever see caterpillars around my place.

Im impressed with those Termite shots, I have ever seen one close up.
Had no idea they looked like the ones in your shot either.

Thanks for sharing Steve clap.gif .... Skippy :D

    Thanks for the link, skip..
They indeed seem to be soldier termites.
I ripped a bit of bark (just a teensy bit) off a tree in order to see them .
I dont think i would like to have a house in that area.. eek7.gif
