Card Reader for the new Lexar UDMA Cards
Along this line of these new Lexar Cards, anyone have experience with the firwire 800 reader? IS the time worth the money? Looking at getting it if I purchase the Canon 5D Mark II. Thanks

Well .... I guess it all depends on how much your time is worth and how much data you have to transfer. If you frequently shoot lots of cards worth of photos and the cards are frequently (nearly) full and you would rather it take (these are my timings with 4GB cards) 3 min (or less) rather than 8 to 10 minutes per card .... well there's your answer.

Personally, I find the $30 extra to be a more than fair trade on the time it takes (or doesn't take) to download the cards to my computer.

Is the recording speed really as fast as they claim? Thanks

Write speeds will vary with camera and card combinations.

    A good reference is here:

Choose the particular camera from the drop-down.

    Older camera/card tests are at:

15524779-Ti.gif - what Ziggy said - can't say it any better.

That having been said, with my 50D I do notice a difference in write speeds between my Sandisk Ultra II (2GB) and my UDMA Transcend 4GB cards - a lot of difference!

And, when it comes to downloading to the computer - just boatloads of difference in speed.
