Card maker broken

I can't get the holiday greeting card functionality to do anything!

I select Create a Card from the Buy button/menu.

It takes me to a page with the photo thumbnail on the left and "Click 'Types' below to get started." on the center of the page, but there is no Types (or anything else for that matter) on the page.

Then it just sits there being very lame.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox (3.0.4), the latest Adobe Flash player (10.something), and Windows XP.

    Hi,

I checked your favourites gallery and was able to click type. When you click on 'type', select 4x8 or 5x7.

Since the greeting card functionality is only for account owners, how could you have accessed it on my site?

    Is anyone from Smugmug here?

Seamus is from SmugMug... (at least I believe he is based on previous posts about site downtime)

Sorry, I'm not a psychic. Besides, nothing Seamus said was any help to me. I still can't create a card.

I just tried it on my site. When you see Types, could you not click on that word? When I clicked on Types, I was given the list of (two) types. I clicked on one of them and was presented with the next choice.

The only "Types" I see is where it says, "Click 'Types' below to get started." There is no link or anything else called "Types" that I can click.

I'll go make a screen snapshot to show you what I mean. Be back in a minute or two.

    This is what I see...

!. I click the Create a Card item on the Buy menu.
    432025520_fkeMt-O.jpg

    2. Then I see the Flash progress bar for a while, and then finally I see this page...
    432025643_HixpX-O.jpg

As you can see, there is no 'Types' anywhere to click. Notice also that the status bar says "Transferring data from photos.smugmug.com" Although It says that, it never transfers anything that I can see. I never see any 'Types'. I never see any greeting cards. I never see anything but what you see in the above image.

The browser is the latest version of Firefox (v3.0.4)

No, I don't think I'm running adblock+. I do have Firefox's built-in pop-up blocker turned on (it's on by default), but I have exceptions defined for my site and smugmug. I'll try turning it off completely and see if that fixes it.

Disable Adblock + completely if you have it and then try.
If this isn't it, then what other addons do you have?

You can fire up IE, or Safari, and see the cardmaker working - 'tis likely a FF issue locally for you.

Okay, I don't have Adblock installed. I turned off the built-in pop-up blocker but it didn't make any difference.

These are the FF addons I have installed...

    DOM Inspector 2.0.0
    Firebug 1.2.0
    Save Complete 0.9b11
    Web Developer 1.1.6

Heywaitaminnit! When you guys first came out with greeting cards I couldn't get it to work at all with IE. I had to install Firefox so I could order some cards. Now you're telling me I have to go back to IE to make it work?
    Jeez!

Actually, I already have IE v7.0.5730.13 installed. I'll try that next.

    No joy.

When I tried it with IE it prompted me to install the Flash player, even though I already have the very latest Flash player installed. Anyway, so I let it install the flash player like it wanted to. Nothing. Nada. Zip. The card maker still does nothing.

I also tried it again in Firefox with all of the addons disabled. No go.

    Got any other bright ideas?

BTW, this little test with IE showed me that the slideshow on my home page isn't working in IE. Isn't that special?

It might be because IE does not handle png files nicely and the show code is hanging
    on loading the png.

Your slideshow works for me in both IE and Firefox so I wonder if it's something local to your configuration that is triggering the issue.

But, isn't this flash, not IE handling that?

I open her site in IE6 and about locks up the browser, something is wrong.
But show runs very slow between screen freezes.

I am more concerned with the card maker not working. The slideshow is secondary.

What I was getting at is there is probably some javascript errors messing with
    your site.

IE uses a diff Flash Player from adobe than does FF :)

Interesting. I suppose that explains the install prompt. It doesn't explain why the card maker fails to work with two different Flash players and/or two different browsers. Is it safe to assume that smugmug will try to find a fix for this?

I don't doubt that a bit. However, the slide show worked fine in both FF and IE that last time I made any changes to my site.

On a hunch I tried IE again. The slide show is now working fine.

Unfortunately, the card maker still does not work... in IE or FF.

Antivirus, Security Software, blockers? What do you have, and what's running?

    Software firewalls?

    Other security stuff?

It's working in IE on your site, here.

Hah Mick - well, you have got to have *something* blocking flash, blocking our card maker. Can you login from another computer and try?

Okay, I tried it with one of my other desktop systems and got it to work. This system is running Windows Vista Enterprise and has an older version of Firefox (version 2.0.0.12) installed. When I went to the card maker page I was prompted to install the Adobe Flash player. I selected install but for some reason it couldn't install the player. So I went directly to Adobe's site and installed the Flash player. When I went back to my site the card maker worked fine.

So, why does it work with a newer OS and older browser and not work with an older OS and newer browser?

Is there a minimum OS version required?

    No.

We may never find out, I'm glad you're working though! FWIW, this is the only case of the kind.... We're still researching!

Well, I was a bit premature when I said it was working fine. When I posted that I had just told it to create the card that I designed. It put up a message saying that it may take a while and displayed Flash's "sit-n-wait" animation. I just checked and it's still showing the same thing. It's 5:37 PM now and it's been creating that same card since 3:52 PM. If it hasn't finished by now, it probably never will.

Anyway, at least I was finally able to get to step #2.

Check the card gallery, it might be there. I found some of mine before the
    thing stopped creating.

Had the same problem when walking a client through making a card over at their house [logged in w/ my account on their dell win xp laptop]. Made the card just fine, no problems, but when getting to the "create the card...this may take a while" it just sits and spins FOREVER. I eventually had to go home and my client tried three more times, then again at his work this morning and still no go...
