My wife and I are going to be in San Francisco for a little over a week... about to hop on my flight outta Newark. I have a decent list of things to check out, but does anyone from the area know some good secret spots? Hey, isn't SM based outta SF????:huh:huh

They're over in Mountain View, but it's all in the same 'Bay Area' :)

I personally vote for checking out the Presidio and the cliff side paths there for some awesome vistas, fog or not, it's stunning. As well, the Legion of Honor has a GREAT Rodin collection (and yes you can photograph it) of statues among other art works and rotation collections.

Otherwise, there's rather unlimited things to do, few of which are 'secret' since so much of San Francisco has been seen by 1000s a year no matter the spot. Your best bet is to just choose things you WANT to do (not those the tour books TELL you to do) and just go have fun! :D

    Google Map
I've been mapping Bay Area photo locations on my Google Map.

Maybe it will be of help.

You have hundreds of options within the city, a few more thousand options in the North, South, and East Bays. Within an hour and a half drive in any direction of the city you will have so many options you could easily burn up a few mem cards without trying.
One thing to keep an eye out for are the whales. They are beginning to make the migration.
The fog can be thick in the morning and evenings, and be sure to bring a jacket. The city is quite cool and surprises many people.

Wow, that's a pretty good map you have going! I'd add Pigeon Point Lighthouse south of Pescadero, and make note of the lighthouse underneath the Golden Gate Bridge on top of Fort Point. You have a few places listed that I need to explore.

    Glad you like the map!
I'm glad the map is helpful.

Dee, I added Pigeon Point Lighthouse. Thanks for pointing that out.
I've been there before but I don't have a photo worth posting. One of
these days I'll have a worthy photo.

I already had Fort Point marked and have an image linked that includes
    the tower.

There are many places left to add.

The place I enjoyed shooting most recently is Kirby Cove at night.
You get a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The light from the
bridge casts quite a bright light. You have to hike about a mile though.

I've posted this on another thread:

    384885994_owkBc-M.jpg

The classic view is from Battery Spencer. It's a very beautiful location
and very popular. I don't have an image from that spot though.

I think the Golden Gate National Recreation Area north of the GGBridge
has a lot of wonderful places to visit (both natural and historic) and
    shoot.

Checked out muir woods today... went on about a 5 mile hike and took a crap load of bracketed tripod shots. That place is awesome! Stopped on the N end of the golden gate and got a couple more bracketed shots. It was just about the golden hour at the bridge... really great light, clear skies, no fog. We ended up driving up/down lombard street, blew a wad of cash eating at ozumo for dinner rolleyes1.gif, took a pic of that bridge above, then stopped at some drive in diner for apple pie and expresso milkshake. Tomorrow we are off to napa for a few days of r&r... maybe i'll get some shots uploaded.

    Super
Super shots. You made it to Battery Spencer. That's a classic viewpoint
and you did a fantastic job capturing the scene.

You're timing is pretty good. We have some interesting weather
    this week.
