Ballhead broke. In search of new one.

Not quite sure how it happened, must have been the times I hiked on granite and left it out in the cold so often. I do a lot of heavy hiking, and usually take the tripod with me.
So I'm now in search of a new ballhead that will fit my legs. It was a manfrotto setup. Should I get the same ballhead or should I get something new? I do need to get this soon though, so I've got to try to figure something out. :dunno

That's a first for me, maybe contact Manfrotto and see if they can replace the ball.
Otherwise if you've been happy with it's perfomance in the past I'd just get another one, I mean what's the chance of that happening again?
5D2/1D MkII N/40D and a couple bits of glass.
Assuming the broken ball is unrelated to impact, and is due to the ball (apparently some kind of resin/plastic)fracturing internally, I suspect it is due to a manufacturing defect, an internal stress or crack not apparent on external inspection, and should be replaced without charge by Manfrotto.l found them very reasonable with my own prior ballhead problem, and after explaining the problem with my head to them on the telephone, I mailed the ballhead to them, and they promptly replaced it with a new one, no charge. They will probably do the same with you, or if you fear the plastic ball breaking again, they may send you a different head with a metal ball.Ask them . Good luck.
