Cooper's in action

Don't usually get much time to browse other forums but this pair of photos
got me thinking. They were taken less then 2 seconds apart and I'm sure I
was focusing on the perched bird in both. Looks like shudder delay but also
more important maybe exposes a front focus problem. I do have a terrible
problem with focusing (spot) and usually tweak slightly after AF if not on
manual. Or maybe I just had the focus in front.

less the 2 secs later

I have been experimenting with AF slightly towards the rear of subject and
seems to help. So not sure if 500L needs adjustment though.

btw, did have some excitement here lately, first ever reported siting of an Allen's Hummingbird in Missouri.
Luckily it showed up on a hummingbird bander's feeder so he could document.

Thanks Dan, one of those oops that just happened to come out neat.
Was very excited being able to photograph the first in state, kinda a
hysterical event :D, peeps came from all over to view. Tripods, scopes,
    cameras surrounded the place.

Well done Allen. I agree on the second image, sweet! It is interesting how they kind of leap off the perch before the wings spread.

Nice one on the "Allen's" Interesting ... Allen was called in to take photographs of the Allen's Hummingbird! rolleyes1.gif

Great cooper's shot. I love that second one. The focus is spot on there! An anna's in MO is strange, but if it has wings anything has a chance to show up anywhere. :D

But it was an Allen's and left here a day ago heading south towards Texas.
At least we hope the little bugger headed south. Probably passed your
    backyard already.:D

I really like the second photo. The focus looks pretty good to me. The little hummer is a beautiful fellow.

Maybe a low contrast subject is most of the AF issue?headscratch.gif

I have not noticed you around much for awhile. You are the one guy I could always count on for an accurate ID.nod.gif

    Glad to see these!thumb.gif

Definitely right about the contrast, that's why after AF I usually fine tune the focus manually hopefully on a glint in the eye. The second one I probably didn't have time to do that, < 2 sec. between shots.

Been so busy in support forums but occasionally check this forum when things get slow.

Very sweet. How would you compare it to your Bigma. I'm trying to figure out how I get into that range
