A Few Shots with a 5DMk ll

I was shooting in a coffee shop the other night to test the utility of the 5DKll in low light shooting. I used an 85mm f1.8. The lighting looked incandescent with round bulbs, but a Tungsten WB setting gave me images with a green tinge, and I realized the lights must be fluorescent. The Fluorescent WB setting did not work either, so I shot in AWB and balanced in RAW processing off the white card on the wall behind the performers. That gave me pretty good CMYK numbers for skin values.

What distance were you from the gents? Reason I ask is I just got an 85mm lens and find it very UN-useful with my D300. I am about to move to FF and....need to know.
thanks, tom

Ramblings About Me
I'm getting really green-envy with all you 5D2-enabled folks..
Must... get.. moneys....
Anne, I knew someone was going to ask about my processing, and I MAY have run them through Noiseware - I honestly don't recall as I did this Saturday evening - but I don't think I did. I will post another shot tomorrow without any noise processing for certain.
These shots are a good 2-3 stops faster for equivalent noise than my 5D. That is the ISO 6400 shot looks like an ISO 800 shot on a 5D in my opinion. I have not seen the dreaded "black dots" described yet either.
For fluorescent lighting, pretty decent color, I thought. Any comments about color balance?

I envy you the work you are showing with your models. Very nice indeed.
You know cameras don't make pictures anyway, only photog's eyes do that!

What about the fingers?? Last I hear the eyes can't press the shutter or change the aperature settings!
(nice shots!)

The color balance looks quite good to me. I think it is a bit better with the first shot, but both are very nice.
I think the fact that I'm still married might give others a clue
Like Richard said, "Color me envious!"

More importantly - whose photos are being displayed? Is that one of your herons?
Perhaps a showing?
Nice shots -

Come on, Scott, cave in! Buy one under the radar!!
Those are some great shots! Even those black dots are awesome! >.>

- She is an alternative medicine health care provider and has learned how to discover ailments in others with barely a touch. I think a guilt problem will not slide under the radar.
- Our marriage is working on the second 1/4 century and she has, by now, learned how to sense when I attempt to keep something from her. I say attempt because I am seldom successful in keeping anything significant from her.
So, no matter how much I would like to get one it's just not going to happen. My Photos

How could she argue with you about something that is clearly a business expense?!?
Oh, and nice shots Pathfinder. Very sharp!

The files were not run through Noiseware either.
Here is a 100% crop from one of the shots straight out of Adobe Camera RAW with no further processing whatsoever, and no noise treatment in ACR either.

George, I missed the reference the first time through.:D I tried to frame the players with a clearer background, but just did not succeed all evening.
No, that is not one of my images. It is greenish, and not really sharp to my eye. It is one of a series of images done by a faculty member (Jim Speer ) at Indiana State University. He had some lovely work on the walls that night, but this image was not among his best IMHO.

Scott,
Don't try to hide it...just tell your wife you're going to get it and that's it...then you can spend ALL your time with Tim and "his" 5D MII and not have to go home!!!
- Gary.
I agree. Nice work. Thanks for showing us what the 5D II can do.
