The first one looks under exposed a little and the second looks over exposed. The object is too centered with a lot of dead space around - try coming in closer and setting your camera in portrait orientation.
If your lens is capable, try filling most of the frame with the face perhaps, or just the upper body/face filling the frame in landscape orientation

It's back to the drawing board. I'll figure this out yet!
