Thanks for the comment
Would be appropriate for the calender- I agree, but I was not involved in choosing the pics for it.

Does make a nice change from the normal dewdrops - my knees don't get so wet - I just get cold instead

Wow Wow and double Wow :eek1
The first one looks like magnetised Iron Fillings.
The second one is a fine lady in a beautiful long flowing hooped dress,
carrying a bouquet of flower, and she also is wearing a bonnet.
The third one looks like a Fish Bowl or Vase.
The fourth is a Froze Green Apple.
Hmmmmmmmm the last two have me stumped
These are truly beautiful Brian...sigh... I run out of words to praise you
about your work my friend .... Skippy

This is a small piece of wood at I believe 4x ish.
This is one head of moss on the ground. Again at 4x ish, maybe 5x. I don't remember.
But I had so many issues with getting the subject in focus because there is no focal ring. I was constantly moving the tripod slowly up and down in as tiny increments as I could do, and when I could get something in focus, the light that I had was fading and everything was coming out blurry. If a bird flapped its wings in Japan my lens moved in BC. It was ridiculous. Anyways, I'll start another thread for this.
Great job on your photos though, I'd love to get back into macro photography, as well as getting that lens if I knew I could get some better results that I had previously gotten.

Skippy- you've got an overactive imagination
Candid arts - those two shots look pretty good. Not sure if you have shot macro before but the MPE-65 is definately not a beginners lens. Takes a lot of getting used to. I'd try a 1:1 macro lens around 100mm first.

Yeah I've done quite a bit with my 60mm f/2.8 Macro (got it before I realized that I should have got the 100 or larger). But I've got some pretty good shots (IMO) with it. Just from the one time I've used the MPE-65, I was not impressed with how it worked, but seeing your images, and others, I know it can do better, WAY better. I just REALLY wish it had a focusing ring. That would help SO much.

=================
Brian,
Do you take any precautions with the camera or batteries when photographing in cold weather? I've read that cameras don't work properly below freezing due to lubricants freezing or failing, etc, and that LCD screens as well as batteries may fail or work poorly. Some people say one should keep spare batteries in a warm pocket and regularly swap them with the cold batteries in the camera. I'm not sure how one is supposed to keep BW LCD screens working in very cold weather unless one can keep the camera inside one's coat.
These concerns mostly relate to weather below 32F (0 C), and even colder.
Thanks for considering this issue. I hope it's not too far off topic of your beautiful frozen water macro photos.
Fraid the answer is not really. It does not normally get that cold here- very rarely below 0'C. When I' doing these shots I tend just to nip into the garden for 15 mins. It's normally my fingers get cold before anything odd starts happening to the camera. I tend to place the camera on a tea towel when I come in from the garden and that's about it. I think if you are out in the cold for several hours then you do need to take precautions. Warm spare battery plus a waterproof bag to put the camera in just before you go back into the warm to prevent condensation.

-10C). I had a spare battery in my pocket (which I didn't need) and put my
camera in a bag before I came inside. (I did brush the snow off first)
I was out for about an hour, no problems during or after.
