I can't remember if you've said - what gear do you shoot with and what settings do you typically use?
You're getting better & better at this...
My favorite is #5. The muscle tone on the black brindle is excellent. You have the contest in the image, the pursuit is always exciting for me.
The subjects in the shadows... nah. Perhaps it was time to go home.
Nice work overall... You got me excited again to go the Daytona greyhounds during bikeweek.

Thank you John! I really appreciate the comments!
I shot these with my D300 and 70-200 lens. I have started using the Picture Controls set to "sharpness=7" and "saturation=1". All other PCs set to default.
I use NX for my RAW converter as it really does the best job for me.
Settings:
"C" mode
Manual exposure mode with shutter at 1/1600+ for daytime shots
Aperture is usually in the 3-6 range
Auto WB
Release and Focus
Tracking "off"
Ch shutter
Decoupled using AF-ON button
D-Lighting off
ISO as low as possible, for nights rarely under 1000
Use 85mm f/1.4 for nights set at f/1.6
Matix or center weighted metering
9pt. dynamic AF, NEVER use more than that
VR usually OFF
Pan with monopod set very loose
Hope I didnt miss anything. If I did please let me know!!
thanks again,
my best,
Rick

it's not the size of the lens that matters... It's how you focus it.

whoever dies with the biggest coolest piece of glass, wins!

thanks so much for the nice comments! Coming from folks like you they REALLY mean a lot to me.
Im going to venture into the world of flash photography soon and will be seeking your input and advise as I let go of my security blanket a bit, the racing greyhounds.
many thanks,
Rick
Can't wait to get out there and shoot.

Hi Aaron,
I hope we can get together soon. Im sorry if I havent gotten back with you, but we've had some problems with people showing up for work (darn work always gets in the way of photography huh?!!).
I looked at your photostream. You have some GREAT images and I enjoyed viewing them very much!
Hope to see you soon,
Rick
Dave
Thank you Dave!! Most appreciated coming from you!
my best,
Rick
Your shots are awesome! I have new found respect for your work after having gone to the Sarasota Kennel Club on New Years eve for a matinee card. I thought it was more difficult to photgraph than Thoroughbreds as the action was much closer and moving just as fast. I only had my 80 - 400 VR lense with me which I found couldn't focus fast enough. I might have had better success with my 80 - 200 but that is not with me here in Florida. Maybe next year.
I tried uploading one of the better shots I got while there. I know it could be better.
