Hi gang. First let me say, I am NOT a sports shooter...especially basketball. I had the fortunate opportunity to shoot with flyersguy (a real pro) and we switched camera bodies (MK IIn, 5D, & 50D). The high ISO on the 50D was impressive as the new firmware provided better in camera noise reduction...even at 6400 ISO...wow...impressive. The trick of course is always expose to the right. These are more examples of what the camera is capable of rather than my shooting skills..LOL. I'm a portrait/event guy but had an absolute blast shooting the game.....might just have to do that again!

Here are some examples. For the most part I didn't bother cropping but rather show what was pretty much right out of camera...yes, in JPeg....eww.:D

ISO 6400, f/2.8, 1/640th

#6 3200, 2.8, 1/400th

#7 6400, 2.8, 1/640th

#8 3200, 2.8, 1/400th

Next time out, will try the 40D. What was most impressive was at 6400 ISO...we'll also do some 12800 for the heck of it.

Thanks for looking :lust

Dave you shouldn't sell yourself short, you did a great job as the shots prove! Equipment is one small equation in all this. It was fun shooting with you that evening we will do it again soon!

I am new to this forum and would like to take photographs of my grandchildren in the gym, wrestling and basketball. I have a D50 with two lenses, but I always have a flash with red eye. I don't see any red eye here with yours. Do I set the camera to manual and force and ISO setting. There is no film, and I am not used to digital cameras. Tell me where to begin and I will try to learn please.
