Very cool lighting effect . The bright gold/yellow branch in the foreground is a major distraction IMO. Defintately looks like my memories of PNW forest. Nice, simple title that fits.
This is okay but not very natural. The English ivy on the right is an invasive that I personally think is ugly in photos. Note how shiny it is compared to the native flora? I think you could do much better by selecting a more natural area.
It is hard to find a area in the Portland area without english ivy, I know that there are crews of volunteers that try to kill that stuff in Washington Park (Where this pic was taken)
Welcome from another fellow Oregonian and dgin newbie. Are you ready for this weekend?
I second the removal of the bright branch and wonder how this would look if it was captured in a vertical format (to see more of the top and bottom as leaforte suggests)

Try Powell Butte, Oaks Bottom or Forest Park. Yes, there's English ivy in all those spots but there are plenty of places in those parks without English ivy. You just have to be careful where you point your camera.
Powell Butte above and Oaks Bottom below.
BTW: In case you're curious, here's an audio slideshow I did last December on the Portland Parks crew that removes invasive plants like ivy and holly in Forest Park.

What's this weekend? I'm in Beaverton as well, and am always looking for new places to shoot as I just moved here in June and don't know the area.
I'm guessing he's referring to the wintry weather we're supposed to get hit with! Get ready for some snow pics!
Yeah that's true. Not much snow though. My dad got 20" over a day and a half period in Anchorage a couple days ago... THAT snow I can't wait for...9 days and counting...
Where are some good parks or something to shoot at around here?

I'll be in Anchorage in one week! Hey, around here, an inch or two of snow is big news, and there is snow in our forecast for the next couple days, starting tonight/tomorrow, so you never know!

Oh really? Yeah I get up there on the 28th and will be there for a week.
Yeah I saw it was supposed to snow, even an inch or two (if it sticks) will make for some great photos. Just gotta find the places to shoot it at. It's raining now...not quite cold enough.

Try the upper elevations of Forest Park-- snow will often stick there even when there's nothing in town.
This is from last December- it was raining in town but snowing in Forest Park above 500 feet or so.
