Media Passes

Hello all,

I LOVE shooting bands. I do a lot of work with local bands, and a few signed artists. I have a band that I DREAM of shooting, and they are playing a show in my area soon.

However, since they are a big-label band (Coheed and Cambria, for the curious), I know that I'll surely need a media pass in order to bring my camera in (and hopefully procure a place in the photo pit). But here is where I am a bit lost ... who do I contact to get such a pass, and are there any special tips to convincing said-person that I am worthy of shooting at this show? :dunno

Thanks!
Not there yet, but I've passed the start ...

You can try contacting the band's PR person, contact the editor of the paper that is local to the venue they are playing at and ask if you can cover the band for them- then you can have the editor fax the band's PR person for you, contact the manager or PR person at the venue , rack your brains and figure out if you know a friend of a friend of someone who has some kind of contact that can help you.
You will really have to sell yourself - good luck!

Another good option is the local radio station. A lot of bands big and small love radio and often will grant access. Promoters love radio also.
