I'm more of a sports photography, but Nikolai gave me the opportunity to to take photos of a pretty lady. How could I turn him down? :D

We shot sunrise in SF, had breakfast across the bay, took a slight detour, but made it to Kirby Cove with enough time to shoot a few sets.

C&C welcomed and appreciated, especially since this is very outside my comfort zone.

April - your #2, I think is the winner of all these that I've seen. I love the composition and the framing and the light and the sense of seclusion I get when I look at this. It touches me.

Did you, by any chance take a similar one from a slightly lower perspective and in landscape orientation - if so, I'm thinking that might make for a tighter composition and include a bit more of the GGB.

Thank you so much!!!!! I think I got lucky! Seriously! BUt I was making the conscious effort to include her and the bridge.

Actually, I was very, very nervous at this shoot since I haven't trusted my gear since the Moab shootout (dropped, water, sand, etc) and my 40D had known AF issues. Slight soft landscapes isn't too noticeable, but I knew it that people photos would be another issue when I had to get eyes in focused.

I didn't have anything in landscape orientation since I was shooting with my 70-200 and couldn't get a frame with the entire GGB in landscape. I tried.

I wasn't going to buy them and was actually thinking about the new radio poppers, but amazon had them on their lightening deal (for two hours) for an addition $30 off and there was also the rebate of $25...

And you know me -- I can't say refuse a sale.

So.. PWs, and the beginnings of a strobist setup. One lightstand, one sunpack, one unbrella, one cable.

I figured the only way for me to learn flash and off camera lighting was to play. And after I learn, I'll probably sell everything.

You're only as good as your next photo....
One day, I started writing, not knowing that I had chained myself for life to a noble but merciless master. When God hands you a gift, he also hands you a whip; and the whip is intended solely for self-flagellation...I'm here alone in my dark madness, all by myself with my deck of cards --- and, of course, the whip God gave me." Actually, i find it amazing that I got any keepers from this outing. I finally had a chance to send my camera body to the canon hospital after that weekend.

I knew that I had AF issues after my trip to Moab (and maybe even before Moab), but didn't have the time to send it in.

It turns out that my AF was defective :uhoh and they had to rebuild it.

So... surprised that I got anything in focus!
