CS4-clone stamp tool problem

I have just recently installed PS CS4 and am attemting to learn the program.
I have seen a tutorial and have sucessfully used the clone stamp tool. Not very hard!
Now when I go to use the tool...I get a dialog box stating "could not use clone stamp tool because of program error".
After a complete uninstall and reinstall of CS4, I still get the same message whenever try to use the tool.
I've searched and searched the web and see that others have had the same problem...but no answers.
Any help?

I've already waded through all of this stuff.
EDIT: Me stupid...it's easy (for me anyway) to assume things when I am already relatively proficient in another full-featured editor (Corel Photo-Paint). So I read the help and watched a tutorial and then tried to do it the old way!!! NO ALT or OPTION clicking needed in CPP. Still...me stupid.
