I just tried and found one of my own picture in Google Map. I don't use the Smugmug map though. I create maps within Google Maps (using "My Maps") and embed them in html-only pages.

    Hi Erick

Do you still see the photos on your Google map when you are logged out of Google? ie. do you know if they become publically available?

Yes. You will be able to see the photos in google maps, if you are logged out.

The google maps have options whether or not they are public (a bit like smugmug's unlisted galleries, non-public maps are only available to people who know the exact URL).

In order to make the photos appear on Google Maps, you need to enable external links for the galleries in which the photos appear.

See http://pbolchover.smugmug.com/gallery/4330374_Q9r95 for examples of how you can embed a google map inside a smugmug html gallery.

I put a blue marker on the map and use the rich text to insert an image. Then I select that image and link to to it in the gallery.

This is what it looks like: One map.

I found one my image on first try but it had a typo in the caption until recently so it was the only image under that search term. I can't find any other so far.
