Mission San Juan Capistrano

Went back to this old Mission built in 1776 when California was a Spanish Colony. There were many missions for missionary work and to provide shelter for travelers moving up and down the street. The church was destroyed by an earthquake but the rest of the mission remains. Where the missionaries and the natives lived and worked.

Overwhelming theme are arches and columns and textures provided by the bricks used to build the mission. There are two fountains with two courtyard gardens as well.

Low winter light made for pretty interesting lighting.

Very nice! I spend many day's cruising the mission growing up in San Juan. I love #3. The long shawdows really give it character and definately a picture I would hang on my wall. #4 has is a great wide angle shot. Thank you for sharing!

    Thanks for looking folks.
Looks like no.3 if popular. Funny, when I first looked at the image on the computer, I almost didn't process it. I guess the long shadows do add something.

The California missions are a real treasure to see. When I think that each was roughly a day's travel from its neighbor, I am amazed. Over the years, I've been to many of them.

I like your interpretation of this mission. Especially the view across the fountain.
