Snow...In Las Vegas!!

I've been in Vegas since Feb 2002. Today marks the 3rd time I've seen it snow here. Today was actually a pretty good snow. In some parts of town, it snowed all day long and the snow was very thick on the cars/trees. I drove accross town to get some shots - though I didn't do it justice. By the time I got to the spot I wanted it was too dark to get anything with the gear I had with me.
Thought you all might like to see some desert snow though.

"i dont want to be filthy silly rich, i just want to be able to do what i want, when i want, and how i want all the time...."
So hell froze over?
:lol4
I asked them if they wanted to build a snowman.... "No dad, it's too cold."
Kids, go figure!
Well, you did a better job than me at getting a nice exposure. I left the house around 3pm and got to your side of town around 4. I was heading to Redrock Casino but didn't make it in time for the light. On the way I stopped at a station casino (can't remember the name) because I saw that I was running out of light and traffic was bad.
I live on the east side, just rain over there.
It looks like you were at Suncoast. I never left home yesterday so all of my snow shots are from the front or back yard.
P.S. All the snow is gone from our yard, but I did get out to Red Rock today. Boy were there a lot of people with cameras. Six inches of snow at the overlook when I was there.
... it's looking like it might snow again tomorrow, and the kids have the day off (parent/teacher conferences).
Must have...ROFLMAO

Yes. Oh my gosh yes. (can you tell how i feel about this place?)
Actually, climate change/global warming is expected to bring extreme weather events all year round-- ie snow in Vegas, wetter stormier weathers in the Pacific Northwest, wind storms, more hurricanes etc. It's not all about warming-- there are plenty of other weather related events associated with climate change.
Still waiting to see some snow pics of the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign!

If the snow sticks there, i will get one!
The strip didn't get any snow during the past storm on Monday, however the National Weather Service just issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow in the Las Vegas Valley, with up to 3 to 6 inches on the valley floor (where the sign is) and up to 10 inches (what?) at my house.
Here is a photo of our house on Monday, while the big flakes were coming down...
P.S. I need to mow the lawn but this white stuff is making that task extra difficult.

Took this one about 5 mins ago, there's already much more snow on the ground.
Yeah, well, the NWS has been saying Portland, Oregon would get several inches of snow followed by freezing rain and the messiest evening commute ever. Right now it's 34 degrees, main roads are clear, and there's maybe an eighth of an inch of snow that fell on top of other snow that fell on Sunday. And yet... I still see people driving around with chains on bare pavement!
Sounds like Vegas may get more snow than us...

if thats insane snow....then you have been in vegas way way too long.....hahahahahahaahahahahaahhaahahahahahahahaahahhahahahahhahaahahahahahahhahaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahhhaahahahahahahahahahaaha...:D
not insane snow to me, but insane snow for vegas.
i came to vegas from reno, so i know what snow is (though even there is was very mild, tahoe is another story though).
I usually like to go to Zion over new years, but I don't think i'll be doing that this year. I don't like driving in the snow.
Here ya go...
As you can see, many people were there before me. Someone even attempted building a snow man (bottom of left leg of sign). I saw a live report on the news at 4pm from the sign with fresh snow on the ground. Nearly 1.5 hours later I was at the sign (normally a 20 minute drive). This image is from just before 6pm. Two television news stations were there doing live reports. Note the power was out to the sign and surrounding street lights. If you look closely, you will see snow in the palm trees and in the background, the green glow from the MGM Grand lighting up the sky.
The snow is still falling and I might go back very early tomorrow morning (one of the news crews told me they would be back at 3am) to get a better picture with more snow and hopefully less footprints.
Oh yeah, the school district has cancelled school on Thursday due to the weather.
The National Weather Service predicts this will likely be the biggest snowstorm to hit Las Vegas since 1979... when 7.8 inches of snow was measured at McCarran Airport.
So cool! Have fun in the snow! It's freezing in the bay area!
Cool! Figured this would be a popular spot!

Did you get back out this morning?
Too tired to get up. Don't know if it would have been much better anyway as I think the snow was tapering off early and not much if any was added to the scene. Plus they probably hadn't fix the power issue with the sign.
