Well, I am not Baldy et al, but I did shoot this one standing next to Andy and Nick, if that counts for anything. This sucker is about 15 shots. I suspect it is with the 24 - 105mm & the 1dMkIIN. I am pleasantly surprised with this result:
That was Friday before the dgrin party, Twin Peaks, howling wind! Great company though! Wish there were a way to display it better here.
This next is the night before, from the first lookout over the GG Bridge:
I believe that is 5 or 6 shots, 1dMkIIN, 24 -105 and each a 30 second exposure.

Thanks April!
I will not judge shots by the lcd of the camera or P2000 again!

WOW! That is a big pano and a great representation of what it really looked like that evening! (Minus the wind of course)
I wonder how the gerbils in your computer liked stitching that together. Still it's a great result and I'm glad you got such a nice memento from the trip.
I love night shots from cities and the GG shot is excellent as well. A slight lean to the left, maybe? But IIRC the hills are quite rolly on hat side of the Bay.
Thanks for posting these!

Hi Ann,
Beautiful shots I'm interested in your comment about judging shots by the LCD on the camera. I've been reading some of the articles about how the JPEG preview/histogram on the camera may not be representative of the raw data. Just curious as to what your experience was. Did the LCD/historgram indicate that these were overexposed?
Comments and constructive criticism always welcome.

I'd like to see a bigger version too.

I wish I was half the man that my dog thinks I am...
Well, the memories of the weekend are more than enough memento! But I am pleased that I alo got some photos! My computer did okay stitching that big one, grumbled a bit but it wasn't an all nighter either!
And about the leaning - well I think I am just always off kilter! It might just be time to learn the pano mumbo jumbo that Nick has tried to teach me (more than once) - you know, nodal point and other words that glaze my eyes over!
It was good to see you and Travis. Happy holidays.

Hi Phil
Thanks. I understand your point, for sure. In full size, it is quite amazing how much detail is there. It is possible to make out the SF city hall on the far left! Amazing, really, but this size doesn't do anything for it. And it is more of a representational thing than an art piece, I suppose.

Hi Mike - exposure wasn't what I was judging (or trying to judge), focus was. Most things looked OOF on the LCD of the camera, and I had too many shots to pick anything good from the P2000 - it is really slow at rendering RAW and the 1d is set to only shoot RAW. I actually think the issue was with my corrective lenses more than anything. I wear single vision contacts to shoot, but progressives to work on the computer.
I can generally trust the histogram, much more than the lcd without using the histogram.

Where did the one of the GG Bridge go? I remember seeing it and others talk about it in this thread.
