FLV format video upload?

In many tools such as youtube, uploaded videos of a variety of formats are turned into FLV formatted files and then played with some type of SWF player inline.
I like the idea of being able to upload FLV files as I already have quite a few on my computer.
As it stands, it appears that the video upload function takes mpg, avi, wmv and assorted similar things.

You just have to make sure that the audioi Codec is supported.

For starters, let's try the "Simple" uploader...
The filename is xx.flv, so I try the drag-and-drop method... it just appears to be unresponsive; no addition of the dropped file. So, I try the "Add Files..." button... Unfortunately, the *.flv extension doesn't seem to be even available.
Here are some pictures to hopefully illustrate... Please let me know what I can try to get these files to upload. This particular FLV file was created with Adobe Premiere Elements (it came preloaded on my dell).
The file as seen in windows explorer (note the extension/filename/surrounding files)
The same directory, though without the ability to upload the filetype, the FLV file simply appears to be missing. Note that the drop-down menu does not have FLV available, nor is there an "Any File" type option to use as a work-around.

I was not a aware that the flv option was not in the Simple uploader. I guess its because I use the more common video types and never tried to upload an FLV. I will look into it.
