Do you pros take interns as assistants?

At this point, I would love to get some experience in doing Wedding photography(unpaid is fine).

I am curious to know if the Pros here would even entertain such an idea? Not me, personally, but just an assistant so that they can learn while you get someone that works for free and possibly a couple of good pictures??

Or would you recommend approaching this idea from a different angle??

Oh, and just for fun, I also know the economy is pretty bad! :P

P.S. I am in Investment biz...if anyone knows what's happened and what's coming, I certainly would qualify.

And one more thing, I won't bite with your responses. :D

    Hi,
You might get more responses if you post this in the Weddings forum! Good luck!

There are plenty of photographers who love to have assistance during various shoots. Some are paid, some are not. If you start looking in your area and contacting a few, you might be able to find someone willing to show you the ropes.
Be sure to share your strengths, and the areas in which you wish to learn.

Not all of us are suffering despite what a few choose to believe.

The Wedding Forum, like the other "shots" forums are for posting images. We'll leave this here and try to get some answers for Wildviper

    Sorry Angelo,
I've seen lots and lots of threads on the weddings forum which do not have any images posted, but rather are used to discuss lenses, white balance, raw , wedding coordinators, and other things having to do with the wedding business, so I didn't know it was ONLY for posting images.
Since that's where the wedding photogs hang out and discuss business , I thought the OP 's question would be better answered by the wedding photogs that hang out there.

That may be true. I don't moderate the wedding forum but I just did a quick check and found only two posts of the many on page 1 without images. All others had images or direct and specific links to wedding images or topics.
And I did bring this to the attention of the wedding's moderator and he agreed.

A discussion regarding assistants could have a wider audience than just weddings and as a community we'd like to see all members visiting the various forums here to share their experiences. thumb.gif

Here are just a few non-photo threads from the first 3 pages ( over the past month) which discuss the business rather than posting photos.

I think it would be helpful to also post your location so if someone would be interested, they would know where you are.

Wow...I didn't want this thread to start any wrong feelings. Thank you Blaker for your suggestion. It made sense to me as well, and I emailed Angelo. He thought it through and also made the right call I think. So Thank you Angelo as well.

I am in SoCal, specifically in Corona, but can travel to Orange County and L.A. even Palm Springs no problem.
