It is -2 here with 20-40 mph winds. So I was not going to shoot today.....well....for several years now I've had a cooper hawk hang around my yard off & on to snatch a birdie off the feeder. I've only ever gotten one not so great shot of it,,,,,2 years ago. It stayed here all day today:clap
I was even able to walk up to within 7-10 feet of it. It was pretty damn cool , but I feel bad because I don't think it caught any food.
Some of the shots I was able to get in the short times that I went out.

Not bad for your own back yard thumb.gif Shots 3 and 4 are really special. I wouldn't feel too sorry for the rascal. Judging by the blood still on its beak in shot 3, it looks like it hasn't been too long without a meal.

Wonderful shots! I like the head shot (#3) most of all; great details there.

With the white ticking of the back feathers and predominent brown coloring, it looks like a sub-adult to me. And, as a.b. already noted, it appears to have had breakfast before stopping by your yard. The younger (read: "dumber") ones are much more likely to hang around all casual like that after they've eaten than are the adults so this is probably an offspring of one you've seen in the past.

    Very cool!

Great images Dave! I like the protrait shot too, but I would be happy with all of them! clap.gifthumb.gifbowdown.gif So nice to have such a willing subject. I had a shot at a juvenile bald eagle this weekend, it was about 300 feet up in the air flying at mach 12! Laughing.gif

Way to go .... looks like -2 was perfect bird photography weather.

    Happy Holidays
