First time shooting Speed Skating! :)
I had been wanting to shoot some speed skating for a while, and my schedule finally worked out yesterday. They held long track time trials at all distances at the Pettit Ice Arena in Milwaukee, so I got a chance to practice a bit. As Tom D. can attest, the Pettit is an absolute dungeon as far as lighting goes, so I had to shoot at ISO 4000, f/2.8, and 1/400th of a second. Apprently to save costs, they only turn on about 1/3 to 1/2 of the lights around the Olympic oval. Not to mention the well used jogging track around the outside, and the fake Christmas trees screwing up the backgrounds! lol Anyway, I'm going to try and do some short track as well soon, and usually hockey arenas are a little better (hopefully!).
I have some more shots on my site, but here are a few I like.
Any critiques welcome! cheers!

seems like fun. Kinda like swimming, captive audience.

I think I'd shoot more horizontal with this sport. Show a little more of the ice. Maybe think of it as the ball. Try to get the athletes when they are working the hardest.
