I am new to off camera flash so bear with me. I am going to be shooting a reception in ballroom setting with very high ceilings. I have the fong light sphere which produces some nice lighitng but I ma afriad the ceiling might be too high to be 100% effective.
It was suggested to me that I set up stationery speed light on a stand somewhere in the room as a slave to help me light the room/subject better. SO teh idea is for me to be wandering around with my light sphere and the off camera flash will help me "fill in" the room.
So then I started looking into my off camera strobing. I have the sb800 as my main light and so I could pick up and sb600 for off camera and use it as the optical slave. Great!
Execpt I had some thoughts:
1) will the stationery strobe fire from the "indirect" flashes from my fong sphere? I mean do I have to be in line of sight kinda thing and how close do I have to be? I suppose I can just move the thing around when I am on one side of the room vs the other.
2) if my flash sets if off..then other flashes will set it off! This thing could be firing all the time from other guests cameras!
So ideally I would like a radio type trigger so that only my flash will trigger the off camera flash. But so far the brands I have seen, it appears that the radio transmitter needs to be sitting in my hotshoe for it to work. I would like a solution where I can still flash on camera and flash off camera that repsonds only to my flash..oh and is still ttl? heh
