Do you like to stand or sit when you shoot basketball? It looks like you are sitting in these shots? Is it difficult to position for the right angles?

I do get low. I find it makes for more interesting shots and you get more faces. However, if there is a team that lives off the fast break and they do a lot of layups, I will sometimes stand to get a better picture of the face.
I don't really worry too much about angles. I just shoot. I try to shoot level and straighten in pp if the crop will allow.
Just learning...
I would LOVE to take bball shots like you! When you say "ambient light" is that a setting on the camera or is it with an external flash also? Do you shoot in manual, if so, could you tell me what you have your ISO and other settings at? You are GOOD!!!

Ambient light is just another way of saying natural light, no flash.

Yes, ambient light is the gym light. I do use flash, but bounce it off the ceiling or back wall if the lighting isn't good from the position I shoot from.
I shoot manual and try to get at least 1/320 ss and adjust the aperture accordingly. I want 1/500. I usually have ISO set at 6400 on the D700. I used to put in in auto ISO, but I noticed the ISO would go down to 200 or 400 when the gyms lights were in the frame which produces underexposure.
For this game, I stayed at 3200 and had my ss at 1/400 and concentrated on getting shots in the hot spots of they gym.

What are you using for lighting?
