I reworked one image, taken at an immigrants' rights protest last year, and thought I'd give it a whirl here for comment... Thanks.

I'm doing well, thanks! How are you doing? Been a long time indeed. I'd be up for another Salton Sea shoot some time. Or maybe the Mojave Desert?

    Cheers,

Angelo, do you think lowering the luminosity of the top third would help this image?

I think I had my fill of the Salton Sea stench to last a lifetime but I'm open to anything else. Mojave or Joshua would be great.

well, I like what's happening to the flag in the girl's hand but I do think the sky, especially the top left corner, could be toned down, I'm just not good enough with PS to do that.

if you shot this in raw then just try a little recovery in ACR...? or LR?
image is fine as is IMO,, i just thought maybe a little less brightness up top...

I did and always shoot in RAW but I don't know what ACR or LR are. My earlier point was that to adjust the sky without affecting the rest of the image requires the use of masks or filters ot some such thing and I don't know how to do any of that. I'm terrible with PS other than the most basic adjustments.

Here's my take on Photoshop post processing for this shot. Since you said that you don't have much experience, I thought you might like to see what someone else thought might look good versus just being told.

Your original...very good by the way...it is deserving of publication...
    443865590_DbShN-L.jpg

My post processing...darkened the sky with burn tool...adjusted the exposure and contrast...and sharpened. All in CS3. As you can see, you don't have to shoot everything in RAW to make some very nice adjustments...

Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

    hey Angelo,
what raw processor/conversion do you use?
im not talking about layers, though they are handy...im talking about recovery of highlights...there is a tool for that in adobe raw and lightroom.

ok, then when you use bridge to open a raw image thats ACR...
(at least thats how it is for me)

when opening a raw file using ACR there is a recovery slider...maybe that will help...or maybe not...

have fun learning all this pp stuff, it will never end....

Actually, the recovery slider was introduced into ACR with CS3. Adobe does not make new features available in older versions. :cry

ACR = Adobe Camera Raw. It's the RAW converter that is supplied with Photoshop.
