Falls shot - from the water

Well, this may not seem like a challenge but it was.

22165900-L.jpg

First it was a cold water you'd have to walk barefoot about 100 ft to get to the point (thanks Michiel for pioneering this for me:-).
Second, I wanted to get both the falls and its reflection in one shot, and considering you're loosing 2-3 full stops in the water this leads to a high dynamic range.
Third - the grass blades on the bottom were too bright and rather hard to isolate..

Let me know if it was worth all the troubles (or maybe it wasn't)

Cheers!:1drink

Hi there Nikalai, is that a river or a lake or just a collection of water from run-off of the mountain? the reflection is just beautiful, nice clean, sharp, and the scene itself just beautiful......how much more beautiful it would have been in real life....... I like your image very much, great shot........ Skippy (Australia)

It's neither river nor lake. It's called The Meadows, kinda large swampy grassy area in the heart of Yosemity. As you may heard, we had tons of rain in CA this winter, so some areas of the Meadows were completely covered by the water coming from the nearby Merced river.
And you're right, this pictures fades to express its original stunning beauty and grandeur.. I'm glad you found it worth trying though:-)

This is very nice Nik - Probably the best I've seen to date of this particular shot. I kept My feet dry, but I can see that that was a big mistake! thumb.gif

Worth it, definitely. Very good shot. And the pain is over now. You will look at the photo, remember the experience and feel good about yourself.

All around, for many reasons, I think it was worth it.

    Besides the photo is wonderful.

This is a case of "Cold Feet" being a good thing. Wonderful shot.

    Nice shot Nik thumb.gifthumb.gif

Being the wuss I am, I walked around these (to a point). You got closer by walking through them. I remember Gubbs coming back to the car with wet shoes and his pants wet up to the knees. I thought he had taken a walk in the river.....lol Nope, he was just wading those meadow puddles, like you guys rolleyes1.gif
